Anna Owens, LPC-MHSP, FNP-C
Update: This semester is the lighter than the last and will be lighter from now on until graduate I can see a limited number of new clients, so I can see you virtually whenever its most convenient to you! I’ve scheduled my waitlist but still have room for a few more for clients! I also do not mind working on Saturdays as I know it may (or may not) be best for my clients; however, in order to do this, I am keeping the parameters as they are for now until I graduate (less than a year) so l am not taking insurance at this time and only seeing clients virtually. My panel (3 insurance companies & all of the BCBS derivatives that were in process) are as of now. This is such a shame, because there are some individual insurances that will allow a therapist to hold their panel position for a specific period of time! Many times though, hard lessons come with an opportunity to stretch my compassion, professionalism, patience, kindness and unconditional positive regard!
îLife is a journey, full of experiences that inspire and challenge. The inspirational moments fuel our ability to persevere. The challenges provide the greatest opportunity for personal growth. I believe in the process of therapy and have personally experienced its benefits. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a specialty of Narcissistic Abuse Syndrome (NAS) or Narcissism Victim Syndrome (NVS), these terms are used interchangeably, but it is important for you to know, it is a syndrome, meaning that most clients present with a strikingly level of commonality! The same can be said for Covert Narcissistic Disorder, if they do present, and almost none of the them ever do b/c of their inability to cope with criticism, regardless of whether the criticism actually happened, b/c they are incredibly sensitive and can find criticism in almost every word, look, or gesture.
My personal struggles have given me a passion for helping victims of narcissistic abuse and I have tailored my approaches to helping clients who are experiencing or have experienced Naricisstic Abuse. While my primary specialty is narcissistic abuse, typically, victims of narcissistic abuse present with at least one and usually more than one other mental or somatic comorbidity. This has made me a strong generalist as well. I work in the areas of anxiety, depression, stress management and coping, PTSD, relationship issues, effective listening and communication, addiction recovery, life transitions, and grief/loss. Most clients, if they were to read the last couple of sentences would say they were experiencing all of them at once. This is why Narcissistic Abuse so dangerous psychologically and as therapists, I believe we need more of them to specialize in the horrifying form of abuse!
Treatment Approach
While I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Emotionally-Focused Therapy, I realize that no two clients are the same. I partner with clients to help them process emotions, identify internal messages, and gain personal insight into how to best empower themselves. I believe in individualized treatment planning and tailor each client’s session to her specific needs. My goal is to support women in achieving their highest level of authenticity.
The decision to reach out for additional support is not an easy one. The day-to-day responsibilities of life can make it feel impossible to find time for self-care.
I have a passion for mental health and make a concerted effort to accommodate clients’ busy schedules to the best of my ability. I am currently offering after-hours sessions as well as HIPPA-compliant e-sessions to allow greater flexibility in scheduling. I also offer free 15-minute consultations to discuss clients’ specific needs and determine if my approach would be a good fit. If you are experiencing a difficult time emotionally, please reach out and let me partner with you to help you grow and overcome.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions! I look forward to partnering with you!
